A class action lawsuit entitled Sow, et al. v. City of New York, et al. Civil Action No. 21-cv-00533 is pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.  This lawsuit is about police action that took place during the Summer of 2020 on various Settlement Dates and Locations.  

On July 27, 2023, the Judge overseeing the case preliminarily approved a settlement proposed by the parties and conditionally certified a class for settlement purposes, consisting of all persons who were arrested, or arrested and subjected to force by police officers at various locations during the “George Floyd protest.”  A detailed description of the claims and allegations in the case and settlement terms are contained in the Amended Stipulation of Settlement and Order, available here, and in the Class Notice, available here.  

Claim Forms and the Class Notice were mailed to Settlement Class Members on September 11, 2023.

If you are a member of the class of people certified by the Court for settlement purposes and want to participate in the settlement and receive a settlement payment, you must submit a Claim Form no later than January 22, 2024.

You can submit a Claim Form in either of two ways:

•    You can complete and submit a Claim Form online by using your Claimant ID number, which will be on the Claim Form and Class Notice that was mailed to you. Click here and type in your Claimant ID number.  You must submit your Claim Form no later than January 22, 2024 to receive a settlement payment.
•    Or, you can complete the paper copy of the Claim Form that was mailed to you.  The Claim Form should be mailed and postmarked no later than January 22, 2024, to the address at the top of the form.
